A war of words seems to have begun between producer Muktha Srinivasan and Kamal Haasan. The former had earlier filed a defamation suit against Kamal Haasan for allegedly presenting the senior producer in bad light in his article marking the 25th year of Nayakan. The producer had his say on the matter through an article that was published yesterday as a rejoinder to the one submitted by Kamal earlier.
The producer, in the article, maintained a tone of clarification rather than retaliation, but did not hold himself back from saying that Kamal had distorted facts and ignored contributions by others. Srinivasan goes to the extent of saying that had Kamal not interfered with Mani Ratnam’s original script, the end product would have been even more outstanding.
He also addressed the ‘limitations’ that Kamal claimed arose because of the producer such as the financial constraints, not shooting in Mumbai and not employing Hollywood technicians. Srinivasan provided a detailed explanation on these issues and defended his decisions.
In other parts of his article he openly states that Kamal ‘copied’ scenes from The Godfather and if not for himself, the Editor Lenin, and music director Ilayaraja the film would have been too long and would have been a box office disaster. Another strong revelation from the producer was that Kamal did not help with the no-objection certificate from Varadaraja Mudaliar that was required to clear the cesnor hurdle.
At the end of his article that had very strong intent, Muktha Srinivasan said he has no issues with Kamal taking credit for Nayakan, as long as it’s not at his expense.
