The members of the Film Chamber, the Producers’ Council and the Theatre Owners Association appealed to the government to save the film industry from closure. The Union Government is planning to levy service tax for films and the producers say that this would impose a huge burden on them particularly with the state government levying entertainment tax.

SA Chandrashekar, T Siva, PL Thenappan, Annamalai, Sridhar and others were at this joint meet. The members said that only 8 percent of the films released are tasting success while the rest are just fading away without any recognition. Moreover, the number of theatres is also decreasing. Therefore, the government should reconsider their decision on levying the service tax, the members said.
