Produced
and directed by Ajaz and starring
Ajaz, Anaka and Shilpa along
with others, this movie has
Pollack, a newcomer, scoring
music for it. All lyrics are
by R.K.Raghuraman
Paarthaal Naan Charlie...
Vocals: Benny

Now, this song, on an attractive
high pitch, has the same roguish
appeal that ‘Mere Sapnon
ki Rani Kab’ of Kishore-da
(Aradhana) had. It does grow
on you. The song of a self-confessed
charmer, it has equally charming
support from the oud, trumpet
and strings. Explosive lung
power from Benny.
Vizhigalil Vizhunthaval...
Vocals: Surchith
Such a cute little number, especially
the string notes that go ‘sa
ga ma pa ga ma ga ri sa ni sa
ga ma pa ---’ that dictate
the unhurried pace of this song.

shades of Aberi raga without much use of
‘dha’ swara. Wish the song were
longer even if it gives you a ‘Hindi
song’ feel.
Oru Naal Mazhai Naal...
Vocals: Surchith, Kide
Niveda, Sreelaxmi
A soft romantic number with some delightful
sax, some pretty flute and string notes.
The sax almost speaks by the way it hops
along happily. The song of a young heart
so lost in love. Is likely to be loved,
never mind the fact it feels like a ‘dated’
pop song.
Penne Nee...
Vocals: Surchith
Mushy lyrics, of course, but what lends
it dignity is the clear rendering and the
uncluttered background music that blends
so smoothly. This song, with strong touches
of what appears to be Hindola raga, reminds
you of a couple of old Ilayaraja hits, but
you can’t help liking it.
Siraginri
Paravai...
Vocals: Anuradha
Sriram
Hmmm, quite a surprise, this number. Conceived
on the madhyama sruti of the 3-kattai scale
of Kiravani raga, this song also glimmers
with touches of Vakulabaranam and Vasantabairavi.
The violins are equally expressive of the
loneliness of the lady and the piano, sax
and keyboards are almost polite in following
the singer. Tidy lyrics! Deserves a pat
for its execution.
Thenkoodu...
Vocals: Krithika
A repeat of ‘Penne Nee’ mettu,
with different lyrics and a slight ‘bluesy’
feel to it. The synthesized voice effect
takes away a little from its melody especially
after you listen to Surchith.
Enai Theendi Paarada...
Vocals: Swetha
Mohan
What a delightful soprano voice this young
lady has! She sparkles in her high-pitched
rendering of this song, which is a sort
of ‘unplugged’ version of song
no.5. Again, the violins and guitars rise
up to the occasion. This song could also
vie for a place on the charts.
Verdict:
This composer has delivered a neat googly
in this album. It pleases you with its seriousness
and the sensible, unfussy use of background
music. The songs, though westernized, have
strong melodic touches that you really take
to. We look forward to more from him. |
