Produced
by J Saravanan and C Baskar, this film
is directed by Badri and has Bharath,
Sana Khan, Prabhu, Vivek, Madalasa, Livingstone
and others donning the greasepaint. Music
is by Dharan and we have seven songs in
the album, with one song being repeated.
Koothadu Machi...
Vocals: Bharath, Blaaze,
Prasad, Suchitra
Lyrics: Kabilan
A ‘busy’ start leads to an
attractive high-pitched start (7 kattai?)
in this number, obviously meant for some
dancing. Halfway through, it breaks into
the ‘native’ mode, which seems
to have become a rather predictable trend
in some recent songs! Anyway, Bharath’s
dancing could make a difference.
Yaaradi...
Vocals: Hariharan, Shreya Ghosal

A
duet set to rather tight rhythms and as a result, even
the Amirthavarshini ‘thanam’ bit by Subiksha
sounds a bit harsh! Hariharan sounds surprisingly uneven
and Shreya comes up trumps! Her voice and the airy flute
bit - these alone remain in our ears after we are through.
Could hit the charts for a brief while!
Yennai Yaar...
Vocals: Naresh Iyer
Lyrics: Kabilan
Aching loneliness is the dominant mood of this song
set to rather quirky rhythms which sadly takes a toll
on the lyrics! Neat percussions, light notes from the
wind instruments and strings and Naresh’s expressive
singing redeem it somewhat. Appears to be on the Natabairavi
scale.
Ore Minsaram...
Vocals: Benny Dayal
Lyrics: Raj Kumar
A tiny number that makes you wonder whether you are
listening to an ‘ad jingle’.
Mudhal
Penn Neeye...
Vocals: Javed
Ali, Sindhu
Lyrics: Kabilan
Well, with such mushy lyrics this song could well serve
as a Valentine’s Day dedication. A done-to-death
Sankarabaranam mettu is somewhat enlivened by Javed’s
spirited rendering and pleasant keyboard notes. A ‘far-eastern’
musical bit before the second charanam flows uneasily
into our ears.
Thambikku Indha Ooru...
Vocals: Benny
Dayal, Mukesh
Lyrics: Kabilan
Oh, dear, what is Ilayaraja’s old hit ‘Raman
Aandaalum’ doing here? What does Dharan want to
prove, anyway? Verdict:
Dharan’s concern in bringing out a musically neat
album is evident. But after a bright start it runs out
of steam. The tunes appear either stiff or rehashed.
We are sure he will work on them in his forthcoming
albums. |
