Produced
by D. Baskar Rao, directed by
the young debuting Bandi Saroj
Kumar who is all of 24 years
old, this high-voltage ‘action-packed
thriller’ features Tinnu
Anand (we saw him in ‘Nayagan’
and ‘Bombay’), Kishore,
Satyan, Smitha, Lal, Biju Menon,
Ponvannan, Sampath and also
Atheesvar, a Burma-based man
who is essaying a negative role.
Music has been scored by Rohit
Kulkarni. All the songs have
been penned by Na.Muthukumar.
Yaro…Ivan Yaro...
Vocals: Karthik,
Caralisa
This song, which probably introduces
the hero, piques our interest
with probing lyrics. Built on
heavy thudding rhythms and some
small trumpet and string work,
it has been sung well by Karthik.
Indha Boomiyil...
Vocals: Shaan,
Nisha
The overpowering effects of
love are being conveyed here
through Shaan’s passionate
singing. The strings and oud
(?) are slightly subdued and
the rhythm dominates. Could
visit the charts for Shaan’s
effort.

Aran Thiran...
Vocals: KK
The title song, sung in a rather masculine
fashion by KK, to the accompaniment of pipa
(at the start), oud and strings. Again the
rhythm takes centre stage, probably to suggest
the dynamics and horror of the battlefield.
Appears to move on the Suddha Danyasi raga
scale with fleeting Natabairavi notes in
between.
Unnale...
Vocals: SPB.Charan
A high-spirited rendering by Charan here.
The lyrics speak touchingly of the healing
power of love. The string interludes are
crisp. Strong visuals could enhance the
emotional appeal of the song on screen.
Porkkalam Theme...
Vocals: Nisha,
Candy, Mimosa, Samantha
Lyrics: Vivega
A small piece with pounding, brooding rhythms
that probably highlight the toughness of
the hero.
Verdict:
The small CD trailer that accompanies this
album projects the hero as a tough-as-nails
warrior who stops at nothing. The album
itself is bristling with rugged masculinity.
Don’t look for nuances and frills
here. But an interesting debut. |
