Produced
by Hitesh Jhabak, written
and directed by Selva, this
film is a sequel to the movie
‘Naan Avanillai’
made in 2007. Jeevan plays
the hero with Sangeetha, Lakshmi
Rai, Rakshana Maurya, Sweta
Menon, Sruti Prakash and others
supporting him. D. Imman scores
music for this album - he
is supposed to have replaced
Vijay Antony. There are six
songs in this album along
with a small percussive bit.
Manmada
Leelaiyai...
Vocals: Shail
Hada, Nityashree, Ben.G
Lyrics: Pa.Vijay
A truly creative piece where
hip-hop meets desi beats!
The start makes you wonder
if this song is composed in
Charukesi raga, but Imman
deftly steers it away to Shanmukapriya
with slight alterations to
the ‘ga’ and ‘ma’
swaras. The title song, of
course, that speaks about
an unabashed skirt-chaser.
Fine support from the clarinet
and nagaswaram. Listen to
it for the way everything
has been put together.

Thooyavaney...
Vocals: Neha Bhasin
Lyrics: Vivega
Everything about this song is seductive
- be it the lyrics, the twinkling guitars,
the airy sax notes that go ’sa ri
ga ga ga ma ga ri sa saa’ at the
start or the lovely beats. Neha carries
off the nuances of Kiravani raga effortlessly
especially when she soars up and glides
down in the second charanam. Could be
liked for its polish.
Southern
Aroma: Instrumental
Yet another testimony to Imman’s
creativity. A cool blending of Indian
percussive rhythms and lead guitars.
Naangu
Kangal...
Vocals: Javed
Ali, Shreya Ghosal
Lyrics: Pa.Vijay
There is something about Kiravani raga
that brings out the best in Javed Ali
(remember his delightful ‘Yaedho
Seygirai’ from ‘Vaamanan?’)
and Shreya Ghosal is so effortless here.
The strong violins convey passion and
the woodwind instruments add tender touches
of their own. Well planned rhythms which
are soothing. This could be a hit too.
O
Maria...
Vocals: Imman,
Jyotsna
Lyrics: Vaali
Oh, this young man simply rocks! The songs
itself is strung together with lines from
Vaali’s yesteryear hits, but see
how Imman has packed them into a simple
Kiravani scale and has a blast singing
it along with Jyotsna. The start is so
cute! Would be fun to see how many like
this number.
Sollamalae...
Vocals: Sadhana
Sargam
Lyrics: Yugabarathy
A pensive number that descends like dew
into our ears because of its easy wavelike
pattern and the soft string (veena?) accompaniment.
Sadhana is delightful, as only Sadhana
can be. An interesting use of Sindubairavi
scale, especially the ‘ni’
swara.
Baaga
Unnara...
Vocals: Udit
Narayan, Suvi
Lyrics: Vivega
A very banal number, but what redeems
it is the excellent quality of the drum
work. Must be a high voltage dance number,
going by the suggestive lyrics.
Verdict:
It must be said to Imman’s credit
- he has been able to bring out two back-to-back
albums with no dip in quality. It is nice
to see that he can churn out softer melodies
too. We heartily wish him many more interesting
albums.
