Produced
by Jayavishal Arts and directed by K.Stephen,
this film stars Jayanth and Srinidhi along
with others. E.K.Bobbie, a new composer
makes his debut with this movie. The album
features 5 tracks and a repeat of track
2.
Konjam Veyilaga...
Vocals: Hariharan
Lyrics: Francis Kiruba
A neat ditty on the Sankarabaranam scale,
which is why it reminds you of a host
of other such songs. Soft vocals, soft
imagery and soft inputs from guitar, flute
and keyboard sum up this number.

Vocals: Karthik
Lyrics: Priyan
This is a song of mourning, as revealed
by the high-pitched, jerky music interludes
and wailing

chorus.
But the song itself has been rendered very crisply
by Karthik and the native rhythms are tightly woven
too.
Karakkan Murukkan...
Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan, Chinmayee
Lyrics: Priyan
A rather amusing number loosely patterned on the Kapi
raga and Shankar Mahadevan hijacks it right from the
start with his naughty nuances! Chinmayee struggles
a bit in the top octaves (is the 7 kattai sruti to
blame?). The Bhangra-like beats and fluttery flute-like
bits add spark to the song which could hit the charts
for awhile.
Katcha Theevu...
Vocals: Ranjith, Nincy
Lyrics: Kalaikumar
Aha, this is Kapi raga again, in delightful western
garb (the string interludes go’ga ga ga ga ga
ma ni pa ga ri’) but you hear shades of Sankarabaranam
too. What makes this song truly pleasant is the easy
dovetailing of lyrics and beats. Neat chord variations.
Kalaikumar’s simple lyrics makes one recall
his ‘azhagai pookkuthe’.
Thirunelveli
...
Vocals: Benny
Dayal
Lyrics: Priyan
Mmmm, a mixture of ‘Aalthotta bhoopathi’,
‘Raman aandalum’ and ‘Enkitte modhadhe’
here. A song of revelry ushering in the New Year (thus
justifying the title of Margazhi 16) rendered with
verve by Benny Dayal. The last instrumental bit oddly
does’nt fit in.

Vocals: Karthik
Lyrics: Priyan
Basically the same as song no.2, but the ‘oppari’
interlude is replaced by background male vocals that
touch sweetly upon the Vakulabaranam raga. Karthik’s
voice alone could hoist this song on to the charts.
Verdict:
There is an engaging crispness about this album which
cannot be denied. We can certainly look forward to
more creativity from this composer in his next album. |
