Enge En Idhayam...
Vocals: Dr. Burn, Krish, Prashanthini
Lyrics: Pa. Vijay
Kandaene... sets the tempo for the rest of the album.
It is a melody with a medium-paced rhythm which is
soft and good to listen to. The song may evoke interest
if we listen to it more. Though it is a neat composition,
we feel that we cannot categorize it as very special.
At the same time, we cannot dismiss this as just another
melody number. A good start to the album!
Oru Paaravai...
Vocals: Gurupriya, Krish
Lyrics: Krish
Another melody follows. With Krish's lyrics, Gurupriya
and Krish himself generate the right pathos. With
very simple and neat arrangements, the song could
be the 'loving couples' favourite. The electronic
flute in the second interlude is brilliant.
Narmada...
Vocals: Haricharan. Suchitra
Lyrics: Krish
Haricharan and Suchitra render this 'happy-feel' song
with ease. A slightly fast-paced song, Narmada has
lovely strums of guitar sprinkled all over. Suchitra's
voice is slightly low key when compared to Haricharan
but another youth-filled breezy song.
Ninaivugal...
Vocals: Devan
Ekambaram
Lyrics: Ravindran
A short song, compared to the others. Reminds us of
his mentor Harris' such attempts in his earlier movies.
Devan Ekambaram's voice is captivating. Another soft
one that emphasizes the mood of the album!
Sort and sweet number. Cannot go unnoticed that easily
as the simple yet profound lyrics rendered with clarity
with not much of interventions touch you just like
that.
Ah
Haa...
Vocals: Krish, Ujjayinee
Lyrics: Thamarai
A peppy number, Ah Haa has Thamarai's poesy lyrics
sung wonderfully by Krish. The same kind of arrangements
as seen in earlier songs: A basic rhythm, drums and
guitar strums. The song does not deviate anywhere
and hence sounds good.
Yavarukum
Thalaivan...
Vocals: Chinmayi, Senthil Dass
Lyrics: Vaali
Chinmayi's voice is immediately captivating at the
start of the song. Vaali's lyrics are delightful.
The slightly different, folksy and classical interludes
come as a surprise in this song. Senthil Dass joins
Chinmayi in the end and makes it enjoyable. A Good
listen!
Cassanova...
Vocals: Rahul Nambiar, Samcy, Sheeba
Lyrics: Ravindran
Casanova has a slightly western influence but Rahul
Nambiar's voice is pronouncing enough to make the
music sit on the backseat. Another short song, this
one has a dose of English lyrics too.
Verdict:
Overall, Kanden, as an album, has a stamp of authority
from Harris Jayaraj. Predominant use of guitars and
drum beats are quite evident in most of the songs.
It is also evident that Vijay Ebenezer has decided
to play it safe in his first music album sans experiments.
The music is fresh, the voices are youthful and the
lyrics peppy which is why Kanden appeals to us as
an album. One deterrent in this album is that the
songs project sameness in feel, but otherwise it is
quite a decent effort for a newcomer. |
