Produced
by R.Saravana of Akarshini Theatres,
directed by Kavinbaala, this
movie stars Karan, Haripriya,
Kota Srinivasa Rao, Raj Kapoor
and others. The story is supposed
to revolve around a newspaper
reporter and according to the
producers, Kanagavel is the
type of character which each
one of us would love to identify
ourselves with. Vijay Antony
scores the music for this film
and the album has five songs
and a Theme Music bit.
Tring Tring...
Vocals: Sangeetha
Lyrics: Snehan
The song of a self-assured girl
who also happens to be high-spirited.
Sangeetha does a neat job of
it. The cheery pace of this
song could have it visiting
the charts briefly.
Paniyara Konda...
Vocals: Anand,
Srilekha Parthasaradhy

Oh
dear! The lyrics almost make you wince.
This is a firecracker of a song, with solid
native rhythms and lively nagaswaram interludes
adding cheer to it. Some expressive singing
from both.
Indha Kadhal...
Vocals: Divya Vijay, M.K.Balaji
Lyrics: Nellai Jeyantha
Powerful articulation along with whispers
mark this number and the lyrics are pretty
decent. The music interludes are quieter
and gently suggestive. This song, apparently
on the Natabairavi scale, has interesting
rhythms.
Suthugira
Boomi...
Vocals: Benny
Dayal
Lyrics: Snehan
We hear a delightfully different Benny Dayal
here, with a folksy rendering. His vocal
chords have been really stretched in this
song! The lyrics celebrate the idyllic life
of a village and the fitting use of delicate
flute notes and neat native rhythms add
life to the song. Could visit the charts
too.
Minsarame...
Vocals: Sangeetha,
Mahesh Vinayakaram
Lyrics: Vijay Antony
A typical Vijay Antony number, with racy
rhythms and some mutual teasing. The song,
with cotton-candy lyrics from Vijay Antony,
breezily touches upon both Hamsadwani and
Sankarabaranam ragas. Minimal participation
from the flute and strings. Could be liked
for its chirpy feel.
Theme
Music. By Vijay Antony
The words ‘Kanagavel Kakka’
are accompanied by drums and ‘sankha’
sounds. A very short bit.
Verdict:
The album is just ‘usual business’
from Vijay Antony. Nothing very creative
here. If the film itself takes off, then
a couple of songs could play on the charts. |
