Produced
by R.B. Chowdury (who is well-known
for promoting young talented
directors) and directed by debutant
director Thiraivannan, this
action film stars Jiiva (Chowdury’s
son) and Poonam Bajwa in lead
roles with J.D. Chakvarthy as
the villain. Others include
Azhagam Perumal, Vadivelu (pairing
with Jiiva for the first time)
and Nisha Kothari (in an item
number). D. Imman scores the
music and the album has seven
tracks. Jiiva is supposed to
have put in a lot of hard work
perfecting his footwork for
the dances in this movie. What
has Imman done this time?
Vithai… Vithai...
Vocals: Shaan
Lyrics: Naa. Muthukumar
The
song itself is nothing to crow
about, with the energetic drum
work almost drowning Shaan’s
voice, but his sparkling rendering
(so like Shankar Mahadevan!)
and Muthukumar’s amusing
lyrics (‘kaal nadaiyaa
pogumpodhu kaal golusa pesu’)
deserve a special mention. The
song of a self-confessed ‘romance
specialist’.

Kadavule…Kadavule...
Vocals:
Dr. Palaash Sen
Lyrics: Naa. Muthukumar
Dr. Palaash Sen? The ‘Euphoria’
singer? Hmmm, interesting! Does a pretty
neat job of this ‘qawwali’ like
piece too. The tabla, woodwinds and strings
flow along smoothly with this melodic piece
that soothes you. The base raga seems to
be Suddha Danyasi with bits of Natabairavi
peeping through. Sure to hit the charts
for the novelty of the singer’s voice
and nice lyrics.
Vada...Vada...
Vocals: M.L.R. Karthigeyan, Anitha,
Watta Bottles (watta name! one or many?)
Lyrics: Thiraivannan
The very start, which parodies Chidambaram
Jayaraman, indicates the light-heartedness
of this number. The music bits are gay and
flippant. It seems to be a ‘kuthu’
paattu and could just flutter onto the charts
for its fun feel.
Azhagu…Azhagu...
Vocals: Bela
Shinde.
Lyrics: Vivega
A sweet little number that celebrates beauty
in life. Sung to the accompaniment of guitar
and flute.
Kadavule: A Rock Star...
Vocals: D.
Imman, Roe Vincent, Varuna
Lyrics: D. Imman, Thiraivannan
A neat mix of snatches from Songs No. 2
and 3 set to crisp music and a wee bit of
delicate mirudangam. Could be liked too.
Fun Motto: Theme Music...
Fun? What fun? Not very catchy!
Kacheri…Kacheri...
Vocals: Mukesh,
Madhushree
Lyrics: Vivega
A profusion of percussive instruments need
not enliven a song and Imman would do well
to understand this. The song, under the
burden of inane lyrics, feels almost constipated.
What saves it somewhat is Mukesh’s
‘live wire’ rendering. This
song can be shrugged off.
Verdict:
A disappointingly frivolous album, when
you consider the neat work he did in ‘Naan
Avan Illai’ and ‘Odi Polama’.
Maybe the storyline demanded it—or
maybe it didn’t. |
