Produced
by Radha Shakti Chidambaram and directed
by Shakthi Chidambaram, this movie stars
Sathyaraj, Sundar.C., Hemamalini and Kiran
Rathod along with others. Dhina has scored
the music, with five songs being featured
in the album. Lyrics are by Kabilan with
Vaali contributing to the ‘Vaangonna’
number alone. ‘Kedi versus Killadi’
reads the tagline of this movie ad. So
the film could be a lighthearted one.
The director assures us that any similarity
to the earlier movie of the same name
ends with the title.
Aandava Aandava...
Vocals: Tippu
A crisp number sung in an engaging style
by Tippu. Funny lyrics that take a dig
at the hypocritical attitudes of people.
Charming use of Madhyamavathi raga scale.
Could have a short spell on the charts.

Kathara
Kathara...
Vocals: Pelliraja, Rita, Dhina
Very neat lyrics that remind you of Kannadasan! One
is glad that Dhina has chosen to highlight them at
the expense of music, but the flute is still delightful.
Polished male vocals. The Aberi raga usage is pretty.
Could hit the charts for its melody.
Vaangonna...
Vocals: Suchitra. Remix of ‘Bhadrakali’
number.
Lyrics: Vaali
The innocence that enveloped the earlier Ilayaraja
number is lost in cheesy rendering here. But anyway
this could have a momentary appeal to the youth. Stylish
notes from the strings. (Veena?)
Aattaiyai
Podu...
Vocals: V.N.P.
Venkat, Rita &Dhina.
This song mocks at the transformation of a young village
girl. The repetitive rhythms do nothing to hold your
attention.
Subbiah,
Subbiah...
Vocals: Sathyaraj, Sundar .C
Very amusing exchange between a misogynistic ‘guru’
and his hot-blooded ‘sishyan’. Nagaswaram
and morsing add lightness to the song. Not a bad attempt
at all from both. ‘Oru lady vandha dhaadi valarkkanum’
is quite funny. Wonder what feminists are going to
say?
Verdict:
Dhina has not suppressed the tidy lyrics with layers
of music, which is good. But just when the album is
poised to take off, it falls back into a predictable
mode. Dhina should take himself more seriously. |
