Produced
by Michael Rayappan and directed by Rasu
Madhuravan of Mayandi Kudumbathaar fame,
this film, apparently based in and around
Madurai, stars Vikrant, Harish, Ramakrishnan,
Raghuvannan (son of actor Manivannan)
and Poongodi, along with others. Sabesh-Murali
takes care of the music department. Seven
songs are listed in the album.
Sirukki Vaadi...
Vocals: Krishnaraj, Ramakrishnan,
Bhagyaraj, Archana, Geetha.
Lyrics: Muthuvijayan
The composer duo did not look for originality
here, with this song being based on the
old hit ‘Kurathi vaadi’. The
lyrics lovingly touch upon all the prominent
areas of the Madurai belt. The trumpets
alone relieve the tedium.

Enna
Indha Maatramo...
Vocals: Karthik, Madhumita.
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar
The mandatory ‘Karthik melody’, from what
we see in recent albums! A rather pleasant duet with
silky smooth rhythms, soft vocals and neat flutes
which hint at Chinese music some times. Funny, this
Harikamboji raga based number makes you recall the
old Hindi hit ‘O Jaane Jaa’.
Oonjalaadi...
Vocals: Sathya.
Lyrics: Nandalala
Stark use of flutes, strings and calm rhythms add
poignancy to this song whose lyrics are pathos-laden.
Appears to be on the Harikamboji scale. Sathya has
sung with subtle sorrow. A bit longish, isn’t
it?
Otta
Odasal...
Vocals: Sabesh, Janani.
Lyrics: Nandalala
A ‘front benchers’ number, this. Brisk
native percussions and the refrain ‘thakita
thakita’ add an airy touch to this song, which
otherwise can be shrugged off.
Azhagu
Katteri...
Vocals: Surjith, Vijitha.
Lyrics: Tamizhamudhan
Soft ghatam like beats and dainty touches of Behag
raga from the shehnai add variety to this flowing
number which itself seems based on the Karaharapriya
raga scale. Could hop on to the charts briefly.
Aariraro
Kettadhillai...
Vocals: Vijay Yesudas.
Lyrics: Nandalala
This song is a sort of ‘twin’ for song
number 3. But Vijay Yesudoss’s singing simply
melts your hearts. The song appears to be sung from
both a mother and son’s point of view. Certainly
deserves a spot on the charts, but will it? Let us
wait and see.
Aappakkari
Aappakkari...
Vocals: Murali, Senthildas, Mimicry Senthil,
Shyam.
Lyrics: Kalaikumar
A run-of-the-mill number with titillating lyrics.
The sankarabaranam raga bits on the nagaswaram and
strings add just a touch of gaiety.
Verdict:
Sabesh-Murali duo deserves a pat for sticking to sensible
and gentle percussive usage for this ‘rural-themed’
story. A couple of songs do catch your fancy. If slotted
well into the story, they may appeal better. |
