Produced
by P. Yobu and Valliyur Virakumar,
directed by M.A. Chandraguru,
this movie stars Tamizh (son
of stunt master Rocky Rajesh),
Chitra Nair, Risha, Anju, Nellai
Siva and others. Newcomer Johan
scores the music for this film
and the album lists five songs.
Mayile… Mayile...
Vocals: Johan,
Suchitra
Lyrics: Snehan
This folksy duet has been so
softly put together. The start,
where you hear ghatam and dilruba
sounds, slowly eases into the
song. The ethnic beats are pleasing.
The dilruba comes along again
later. Suchitra has once again
put in a low-key performance.
The tune is by no means original.
Kannadi Poove...
Vocals: Chitra,
M.S. Nehru
Lyrics: Kalaikumar
Another soft-as-feather song
with string instruments like
the rabbab and bouzouki adding
a gentle touch of poignancy.
Again the rhythms are pleasing.
A song of

hope and gentle assurance, it seems fashioned
on the Vakulabaranam raga and the male humming
is enjoyable. Could hit the charts, but
one wish the song weren’t so long.
Oyya…Oyyalo...
Vocals: Malathi, Dusha
Lyrics: Snehan
This is a number for titillation with crude
lyrics. But what is interesting about this
song is the way the trumpet, mandolin and
guitar combine with the native beats. That
alone can be relished.
Nongu
Vandiya Pootu...
Vocals: Deepa
Mariam
Lyrics: Mathumathi
The song is differently conceived in the
sense that varying rhythms are employed.
The charanams are softer and the chorus
is bright and speedy. The flute and native
drums make merry throughout the song. Deepa
sounds shrill and indistinct in places.
This song could play on the charts for a
brief while.
Kadhal Enbathu...
Vocals: Parthiban,
Durairaj
Lyrics: Kalaikumar
Another song in the Vakulabaranam raga set
to interesting music. Short and crisp, this
could be liked by listeners.
Verdict:
The rhythm component of this album is quite
pleasing. By laying strong emphasis on folk
tunes, this composer could run the risk
of appealing to only a certain section of
listeners. Anyway, let us welcome him. |
