It
had to be Rahman! To have the courage to introduce
such a song to Tamil cinema. At times, it looks
more like a chant than a song. Alphonse Joseph
has touched, what one might think is, the highest
possible frequency attainable by a human vocal
chord. Lyrics are fully in Malayalam; maybe
for the first time since ‘Sundari Neeyum’,
almost 20 years back. In spite of all unconventional
elements, the song has an appeal. The (one thinks)
guitars make it affable to the listener and
Gautham’s montage picturisation adds beauty
to the song. Did take its time to grow on the
listeners, like many of Rahman’s composition.
One gets the feeling that had this been a composition
by any one other than Rahman, many of us would
not have cared to listen to it for a second
time, denying it an opportunity to work its
magic on us.
