This film, with Mammooty in the lead, was about a politician; the flows and ebbs of his life and career and his ultimate transformation into a rare breed of sincere and conscientious politician. It also had a spot of black humor that went well with the political theme of the film. Rajinikanth was offered this film first but he rejected it and is said to have regretted doing that after watching the final product.
