WONDERFUL PERFORMANCES-ZERO ACTING

The ‘Periya Manushan’ – Paruthiveeran
This is one character who we cannot forget for the moments of blithe laughter he provided in Paruthiveeran. He did not deliver any comic dialogues or pull off any funny antics, but he was gloriously the butt of many a joke, the best one being him getting knuckled by Paruthiveeran and then by Kuttisaaku (the small boy) after he got a bit too excited while talking. The man who played the character of ‘Ponanthinni’ (literally translated to ‘corpse-eater’) is not an actor by profession, but happened to be on the sets of Paruthiveeran for some other purpose when Ameer spotted his voice and immediately cast him in the movie. The man’s husky and unnecessarily hoarse voice was what made the character click. Again, he never seemed to act, he was just talking the way he normally does.
