Kamal’s turbulent depiction of caste wars in villages and the very relevant debate on death penalties met with a lot of initial troubles due to its title which supposedly showed a particular section of the population in bad light. It threatened to snowball into a major controversy and Kamal decided to put an end to it by changing the title to Virumaandi which had the last laugh at the box office.
