Director Ameer has made meaningful movies ever since his debut Mounam Pesiyathey. When he approached the commercial king Vijay for Paruthiveeran, we were hoping for an extravagant rural film with eagerness to see Vijay in a new avatar. Sadly, Vijay turned down the offer fearing that the movie might not do well due to lack of commercial elements and it finally fell on Karthi's lap and he delighted the audience as much as Vijay would have. Needless to remind, the movie was a super hit.
