Widely considered to be one of Priyadarshan’s
best films, Sirai Chalai was a stark portrayal
of British rule in India seen through the
eyes of prisoners condemned to languish in
a hellhole of a prison in Andaman Islands.
Mohanlal and Prabhu were brilliant in their
respective roles. The film’s depiction
of the colonial rule complete with warts and
all its ugliness had the viewers in tears
and outraged at the horror of it all.
