Kadhal
Anukkal
udambil etthanai
neutron electron – un
neelakannil mottham etthanai
These opening lines of the ‘Kadhal Anukkal’
song have already created amusement and interest
amongst listeners. Perhaps, for the first
time in many years, school students will get
the opportunity of hearing the terms ‘neutron’
and ‘electron’ outside of their
textbooks. Well, one must say that this is
the kind of lyric that reinforces suspicions
that scientists are nerds who cannot think
about anything other than science, even during
romance. The real significance of the lines,
however, seems to be this….
‘The Kadhal anukkal (love atoms…
a literal translation), an imaginary creation
of Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu are as numerous
as neutrons and electrons! Now, that is as
scientific as love can get!
Well, this song does not get too scientific
or robotic with its lyrics after the opening
lines. Yes, there are a couple of references
to Newton, but nothing much. Looking at the
amount of scientific terms, names and analogies
that have been used in other songs, this one
is definitely on the lower side and suggests
that it is one exclusively for Aishwarya Rai
and Rajinikanth (the human form).
