Tamil Nadu has fallen in love with Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer

Aug 20, 2013

Tamil cinema has always been a conducive environment for films which are high on quality, despite being low on star power and production values. There have been many examples of recent films which totally stumped the audience with their sheer audacity and innovation in content. Films such as Pizza, Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom come straightaway to mind and 2012 was made all the more special by these two films. Even otherwise, we have had films such as Kadhal, Kalavani, Vazhakku Enn 18/9 and a lot more, which rode purely on their content and the director’s vision.

Now as we approach the final quarter of 2013, Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer (AKS) has come as a whiff of fresh air and has joined the league populated by the above mentioned movies. No one expected the kind of impact that the climax of AKS was able to create in our minds. With an unassuming star cast that delivered maximum value, Yuvan Shankar Raja’s mesmerizing background score and Suseenthiran’s unwavering focus on his subject, AKS has already grabbed its spot in the Top 10 films of the year.

The box-office has also been really welcoming of this movie and we spoke to the people who matter, to gauge the success of AKS.

Director Suseenthiran says “Since the movie is just 106 minutes long, many theatres are able to schedule 5 shows in a day and this has made them happy. Now with the good response, the future holds good hope for my movie”

Sources close to the director say that the movie has already grossed close to 4 crores in its first 5 days. On August 15th, the movie opened in 200 screens and on the second day, 20 extra screens were added. Next week, the team is planning to take the movie to Kerala as well.

The manager at a prominent single screen theatre in the Vadapalani area of Chennai says “AKS was housefull in our theatre on the first 4 days and even yesterday, we had around 60% occupancy, which is great”

Another prominent multiplex in the Virugambakkam area of Chennai echoed a similar sentiment as the manager said “The weekend was housefull in our complex and we have to see how AKS survives the Thalaivaa onslaught from the 20th

The audiences in Tamil Nadu never fail to recognize a worthy movie and they have proven their worth and sense of cinema yet again, with the response that they have given to AKS. Fully deserved, we say...
