Pannaiyarum Padminiyum” is a short film, directed by Arun Kumar for Naalaya Iyakunar competition. He has used the same title and script to make debut in Tamil Cinema with one of the promising actors in Tamil Cinema.

Story: Vijay Sethupathi plays the role of driver of Jayaprakash’s old car Premier Padmini. Chemistry between Jayaprakash & Vijay Sethupathi, Jayaprakash & Thulasi, Jayaprakash, Vijay Sethupathi & the Car forms the crux of the story.

Vijay Sethupathi – He has quite lesser scope in this movie, when compared to Jayaprakash, but he has acted brilliantly & given his best performances in emotional scenes.

Jayaprakash – He is one of the most talented actors in Tamil Cinema, but has not been utilized properly in most of the movies after ‘Pasanga’. He has got excellent opportunity to show his acting skills in this movie as the whole movie revolves around him. He has got equal screen presence and has better love scenes than Vijay Sethupathi wi. Chemistry between Jayaprakash and his wife Thulasi was much better than the romantic scenes which we have seen in recent times (realistic & emotional)

Thulasi – What a Performance?? She has acted brilliantly and has got an excellent platform to exhibit her talent.

Ishwarya – She did the role of Vijay Sethupathi’s lover in ‘Rummy’ and really performed well in that movie with limited screen presence. In this movie, she has played the lead role, but doesn’t have much opportunity to perform. Love scenes between her & Vijay Sethupathi looks forced in the movie.

Bala Saravanan – He is the one who played the role of driver in the short film. His comedy timing and face expressions were brilliant.

Sneha & Attakathi Dinesh have done cameo role in this movie. They just appear for a scene in the movie, but it adds too much value to the script.

Neelima - She has played the role of Jayaprakash's daughter and has given her best.

Music by Justin Prabhakaran was too good. Already, “Enga Ooru Vandi”, played in the TV Channels has well received by the audience. “Onakkaga Poranthaenae” with lyrics by legendary “Vaali” is a Treat to melody movie lovers. His BGM plays the crucial role in the emotional scenes.

Cinematography by Gokul Benoy was a visual treat. He has captured the beautiful locations in the village.

Editor Sreekar Prasad – Duration of the movie is 2 hours and 25 minutes. There is more importance given to emotional and feel good scenes than story in this movie. It would have been much better if the duration was just 120 minutes.

Director Arunkumar had to be really appreciated for giving more importance to SCENES than Story in this movie and has succeeded in it to huge extent. Casting in this movie is perfect. He has to be applauded for showing the love & emotional scenes between elderly people realistically in his first movie. Screenplay of the movie is slow and it may not be liked by fewer section of the audience. There is absolutely no story, but he has managed to engage the audience with feel good comedy, emotional scenes & perfect casting.

It may not satisfy the commercial movie fans

Rating of this movie by Common Man - 2.75 / 5

Rating of this movie for people who like Village Oriented Movies, Feel good movies, Emotional Movies – 3.5 / 5
