MUMBAI THAMIZHANS GALORE...

Mumbai as a filming destination has always been popular with Tamil filmmakers. Right from the days of Kamal’s Nayagan down to Rajini’s Baasha, our superstars have visited the shores of Mumbai to film their movies. Mumbai is also a popular locale for filming songs thanks to the numerous landmarks like the Marine Drive and The Gateway of India. Films like Kaadhal Desam had their song shoots in Mumbai.

Now, the trend of going to Mumbai is again picking up in full steam. Let’s look at a few films in recent memory which have been extensively shot in Mumbai.

The upcoming Ajith – Vishnuvardhan flick has been shot in Mumbai for close to 70 days and the unit is currently stationed in this city for another extended schedule.

Diwali release, Vijay’s Thuppakki directed by Murugadoss is said to be entirely shot in Mumbai. Even the junior artistes were sourced from Mumbai for this flick which would see Vijay play a Mumbai Thamizhan.

Jiiva’s 2011 release, Vandhaan Vendraan was also shot prominently in Mumbai.

Another big 2011 blockbuster, Mankatha, also had Mumbai as an important part of the script. The song ‘En Nanbane’ presented some popular Mumbai city landmarks to the audience.

Given the success of most of the films set and shot in Mumbai, we can expect more directors and producers to eye Mumbai as their favored filming destination.
