KOLLYWOOD GEN NEXT WHO MADE THEIR FATHER'S PROUD

By Sindhu Vijayakumar

It’s not an easy choice to take cinema and make a successful career out of it. Many of today’s successful stars had started it from the scratch and climbed up the ladder with their grit, determination and hard work. However, the Gen Next is testing their waters and with solid family support, they think getting anchored in the film industry is not as tough as it were for their parents. With Father’s Day as the back drop, here’s a close look at the children of stars who made their papa proud.

Suriya and Karthi: These young brothers have indeed made their dad, veteran actor Sivakumar, proud by their screen presence. While Suriya established himself as a versatile actor with his memorable roles in Kaakha Kaakha, Vaaranam Aayiram, Ghajini and 7 am Arivu, Karthi hit success with his debut film Paruthiveeran and bagged many awards for his performance. The siblings continue to create waves with their carefully chosen roles and a no-nonsense approach.

Vijay: Veteran director and producer SA Chandrasekar recently said that his son Ilayathalapathy Vijay has grown so big that he cannot cast him in his films. What a proud father he should be to compliment and appreciate his son’s larger than life growth by saying so. Though success eluded Vijay in his initial films, he was quick to bounce back. Known for his mass masala entertainers, the actor is all set to woo his audience with his acting skills and different avatars in his upcoming films with ace directors like AR Murugadoss and Gautham Menon.

STR: Silambarasan aka Simbu alias STR literally grew up on the sets of his father’s films. His father Vijaya T Rajendar, being a successful actor-director and producer, the star kid’s entry into films was as a child artiste. Taking a cue from his father, the son too dabbles in every aspect of film making and his versatility as an actor, singer and director is well-known.

Dhanush and Selvaraghavan: Director Kasthuri Raja is a proud father as both his sons have proved their mettle in films, but in two aspects. While Dhanush is a National award winning actor, his elder brother Selvaraghavan scripted success in taking up the direction route.

Jayam Ravi and Jayam Raja: Sons of Editor Mohan, the brothers are still rocking together not only with their films, but also with the rare bonding they share off screen too. While Jayam Raja has a knack of creating mass entertainers, Jayam Ravi has been climbing the ladder of success with the variety of roles that he chooses to play.

Yuvan Shaknkar Raja: Yuvan has created a mark for himself as a music composer of caliber by coming out of the shadow of his illustrious father Ilayaraja and with every single track he is keeping his identity unique. Karthik Raja and Bhavatharini, siblings of Yuvan are also active in the music field.

Venkat Prabhu and Premgi: Sons of music composer Gangai Amaran, these siblings ventured into direction and acting and have tasted success.

Arun Vijay: Son of veteran actor Vijayakumar, Arun Vijay has been slowly and steadily making his presence felt and his recent release Thadayara Thaakka is an example of this.

While the above are some of the list of his sons who made their father proud, here’s a list of star daughters’ who are their fathers’ pride.

Shruthi Haasan: The daughter of Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan, started off with a career in music and soon realized her passion for acting. The bold and beautiful actress created an impact with her recent films not only in Tamil but also in Telugu.

Aishwarya and Soundarya:  Superstar Rajinikanth’s daughters Aishwarya and Soundarya did not opt for acting, but forayed into direction. While Aishwarya’s debut movie 3 starring her husband Dhanush and Shruthi Haasan gave her critical acclaim, Soundarya is ready to prove her worth with her Kochadaiyaan starring Rajini.

Though there are several such star kids who are in various stages of their career in cinema, one fact remains. An entry into showbiz might be easy for a star kid, but stardom doesn’t come that easily, irrespective of their parents’ star status. To stand out in the crowd, just like any other one, even a star kid needs to work hard.
