Tigmanshu Dhulia is a promising talent who proved his mettle with his first film Haasil but unable to repeat the success. His movies usually have a raw element to it which brings in a rustic feel to it. And when he is taking a classic to bring it to the present we do look forward.

And the director hasn't completely disappointed.

This is the story of Saheb played by Jimmy Shergill, his beautiful but lonely Begum and a young possessive man Babloo (Randeep Hooda). Gainda Singh a local gangster who is constantly trying to eliminate nawab to win the political stronghold in the region which is now held by Nawab. Nawab, to keep up the show of royalty, indulges in an adulterous lifestyle and takes up murder assignments to support the same. His Begum suffers from the lack of his attention and thinks of ways in which to win him back. All hell breaks loose when an affair starts between Babloo and the Biwi.

The story goes ahead to unleash the saga of desires, schemes and plots that lend a touch of Omkara to it. Saheb Biwi aur Gangster is well directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. The screenplay does drag a bit and the production values fall short of good. Only if the movie had come before Omkara and the hundreds of wannabe Omkara films this would have impressed everyone but now it becomes too predictable a fare which is forgiven only by the scintillating dialogues, amazing acting and some soulful music. The sex scenes which have been the major marketing point have been shot aesthetically.

Jimmy Shergill puts his act together laudably. He exudes power and royalty. Mahie Gill is proving time and again how good an actress she is and she is ready to take such bold experiments too. But the crown goes to Randeep Hooda who has portrayed such multi layered character to perfection. Shreya Narayan looks sexy and impresses everyone with her innocent fresh face and acting. Vipin Sharma exudes evilness in his portrayal of Gainda Singh, he gets the best one liners and is quite a seasoned actor to leave out such a big chance to impress. Deepraj Rana is dynamic and looks every inch a bodyguard. Deepal Shaw after a long time gets a performance oriented role and she doesn't disappoint. The rest of the actors have done their work competently.

Technically the movie is good with an impressive cinematography, Exceptional editing and a well thought out art direction. The movie would have looked much better if they had a bigger production budget but still looks good. The film has thrown up some great numbers like  'Jugni', 'Raat Mujhe' 'Chu Chu' and 'I Love to Love you'  which are sure to do the rounds.

Overall it’s a good one time watch. A bit predictable but watch it for the strong performances and exceptional direction by Tigmanshu.

Verdict: LOVE, SEX, DHOKA aur POLITICS
