Ram
Gopal Varma (RGV) needs no introduction
in movie circles. Having directed so many
successful movies, his latest directorial
venture Raktha Charithra has been in the
news ever since the shooting for the movie
started. Since it is based on a true story
of Paritala Ravindra, a political leader
from AP, the production of the movie faced
its share of controversies as well. RGV,
not one to bow down to controversies, released
the first of the two installments as planned,
in October. |

Rakhta Charithra - 1, which showcased politics and gang-wars
in Ananthapur district in AP, was well received by the
public. Though many felt the movie was a bit gory, public
gave a collective thumbs up to it. Since the first part
was mostly about Paritala Ravindra, Vivek Oberoi hogged
most of the screen time. Raktha Charithra was not released
in Tamil Nadu due to reasons best known to the production
unit.
With the time ripe and year coming to a close, Ratha
Charithiram, the second installment, is ready to be
screened in movie halls this weekend. With Ravi gaining
power and rising in stature, Ratha Charithram will show
his nemesis Surya Narayana Reddy (Suriya) getting the
better off him. Suriya will have Priyamani as his wife
in the movie and judging by the trailers, fans of hardcore
action movies would be treated to an action extravaganza.
The movie also has the legendary Shatrughan Sinha, Radhika
Apte and Ashish Vidhyarthi in powerful roles.
Suriya informs that Ratha Charithram is a complete movie
by itself. Suriya plays an engineer who wants to settle
down in life when an unexpected incident makes him take
revenge against Ravi. Suriya says that the movie will
have the same dose of violence as in other Tamil films
and assures that RGV has not gone overboard with gore.
Director Ram Gopal Varma did not hide his admiration
for Suriya's acting excellence. He openly wrote in his
blog that he had never seen more powerful eyes than
that of Suriya's. He also went on record saying that
he adored a male body (that of Suriya's) so much, instead
of a female, for the first time in his life. Such is
the intensity of the movie and Suriya's powerful expressions
can be seen in the movie's promos.
New age producer Dayanidhi Azhagiri has produced this
movie and is releasing it in Tamil. Surya will be seen
in another action movie after his last movie Singam.
This will also mark his debut in Bollywood. It is also
being told that he took great pains to dub for the movie.
Though he initially hesitated, it was RGV who convinced
Suriya that his voice will suit the role when seen on
screen. Suriya, it is informed, had a private Hindi
guru to improve his diction in Hindi.
Cinematography has been handled by Amol Rathod whose
spine-chilling shots in the first part have been praised
by many. RGV has never let songs to slow down the pace
of his movies and hence the music of Ratha Charithiram,
mostly vocal with a metal touch to it, will be situational
rather than obtruding.
There are lots of expectations surrounding the movie
especially with Suriya in the lead. With RGV's confidence
on Surya and his fan base in the South, we can expect
that Ratha Charithram will be the talking point for
sometime after its release. Though there are other movies
releasing this weekend, let us hope Kollywood’s
Mr. Box office pockets yet another winner. |
