The young man finally gets to show off his
colors, literally. Three years after his
debut in Paruthiveeran, Karthi gets his
opportunity to look handsome and flamboyant
with the permission of the director. The
two movies he has done till now, in spite
of being highly acclaimed for their impact
on Tamil cinema in general, have not given
him the opportunity to bring out his real
self. So, here comes Lingusamy with Paiyaa,
which will have Karthi playing the young
man (as the title suggests). And for a change,
this time, we can see him in more than one
costume throughout the length of the film,
he has been allowed to trim his beard, maintain
a neat hairstyle and avoid looking intentionally
unkempt. It will definitely be a new and
fresh Karthi that we get to see in theaters
this Friday. We may even call it his second
debut because of the vast difference this
film has from the ones he has done till
now.
Paiyaa looks to do just one thing - entertain.
But, it certainly will not be no-brainer
because the man at the helm is Lingusamy.
A director, who has the range and versatility
to pull off films as diverse as Anandham,
Run and Sandakozhi cannot fall into a trap
of senseless commercialism when attempting

youthful and colorful entertainer. Yes, his form of
late might not have been the best, but you never know
when a person of his caliber starts finding his bearings
again. Bheema was definitely a disappointment for all
those who looked forward to the Lingusamy-Vikram combination.
But, Paiyaa does seem to be capable of putting all that
in the back burner.
The trailers have suggested unambiguously that the film
is all about youth, energy, romance and action. The
storyline has been a closely guarded secret. But, from
what little we know, a good part of the movie comprises
of road journey in a car which brings along with it
several adventures. Karthi in the lead is certainly
a big draw. And, the presence of Tamannah, the current
hit mascot of Kollywood, adds to the luster that the
movie carries in its run up to the release. The lead
pair will be keenly watched for some chemistry that
can light up the screens. Their chemistry will definitely
be helped by the fact that Yuvan Shankar Raja clicked
into top gear for Paiyaa delivering an album that is
currently scorching the charts with its energetic and
romantic numbers. All songs have reportedly been shot
on a grand scale in different locations promising a
visual treat.
Rounding off the movie, which has plenty of colors,
romance and energy, will be the action quotient. By
the look of it, we will get to see Karthi doing plenty
of stunts in Paiyaa. Milind Soman returning to Tamil
as the menacing villain after Pachaikili Muthucharam
will be definitely something to watch out for. Plenty
of adrenaline pumping shots is surely in the offing.
Paiyaa is a crucial film for both Lingusamy as well
as Karthi. The director will sure be eager to get back
to his winning ways. Even more important is the fact
that Paiyaa has been produced by his home banner Tirupathi
Brothers, even though it has now been acquired by Cloud
Nine Movies. For Karthi, Paiyaa will be a touchstone
for his abilities as a commercial star that is versatile
enough to perform different roles. We have seen him
as the rustic villager and the rather brash coolie.
This will be his first time as an urban, energetic,
cool dude. And, we are even going to see him dance,
not the ‘Oororam puliam maram’ type though.
Let’s see if the youth take a liking for this
dude! |
