Venghai is Dhanush’s release after he was caught in a family emergency – the superstar’s ill-health. What with the superstar falling ill critically the entire family was on its toes and Dhanush was busy as well. However, his Venghai is releasing more or less as scheduled this weekend. Venghai is his first project with entertainer Hari, who is behind a few successful potboilers of Tamil. Recent of them being the Suriya starrer blockbuster Singam, which is being remade into Hindi.
Venghai will also be a commercial entertainer according to Hari and with Dhanush’s expertise in the said genre; the movie could just hit the bull’s eye when it’s released. Venghai has Tamannah playing Dhanush’s female lead. Interestingly, this is Tamannah’s only film in Tamil right now as she seems to be focusing on a stable career in Telugu (she had two releases recently in Telugu).
Venghai is set in the Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu and brings back Goundamani and Senthil together years after they reigned the comedy scene in Tamil movies. The movie also has Rajkiran, Prakash Raj, Ganja Karuppu and Vijaykumar in prominent roles.
Having been in the production for about 6 months or so, Venghai’s storyline is not revealed. But there are no surprises either because Hari’s films take the usual stuff from around our regular lives and make it interesting by presenting it onscreen peppered with songs, fights and family sentiments.
Devi Sri Prasad scores for Venghai’s sound tracks which was released in the first week of June and are slowly gaining prominence. The album has 5 songs penned by Viveka and the pop king of India Baba Sehgal makes a vocal appearance in one of the songs titled ‘Dhenam Dhenam’.
Shot extensively in and around Trichy and Sivagangai, Venghai should be a tad different from Dhanush’s recent release Mappilai for it to be lapped up by his fans. We hope it would.
