Giant Movies’ Pongal release Ilaignan
with the magical touch of Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi’s
pen weaving the story, screenplay and dialogues
is a period film of 1950s depicting the
story of a mother and son. This is Kalaignar’s
75th script. It is based on the novel ‘Thaai
Kaviyam’ made at a whopping budget
of Rs.30 crores. Annamalai, Basha, Veera

golden 50th directorial venture. S Martin of Martin
Productions has embarked on this multi crore project
banking on the direction of Suresh Krishna and Kalaignar’s
penning.
The entire movie is being shot in and around a ship
named 'The Rainbow'. The vast shipping backyard erected
by award-winning Art Director Dharani forms the setting
which was made by 700 people spanning across 3 months,
spending Rs. 3 crores.
This is the second venture of Pa. Vijay as a hero after
he made his debut in Gnabagangal. Pa. Vijay fits the
role of a yester year revolutionary youth.
The female lead cast comprises of Meera Jasmine and
Remya Nambeesan. The debut actress of ‘Run’
Meera Jasmine has carved a niche for herself through
her fine acting. Remya Nambeesan who made her debut
in Cheran’s ‘Raman Thediya Seethai’
fits into a peppy or a homely role very easily. The
tall glam girl of Kollywood Namitha is also sharing
lead space. Supporting cast too encompasses big names
in the industry: Khushboo, Suman, Vadivelu, Nassar,
Rajendran and Delhi Ganesh.
Vidyasagar has composed the music to the soulful lyrics
of the movie’s hero Pa. Vijay who is the lyricist
too. Vidyasagar’s music always has a certain expectation
level fastened to it and mostly never goes down that
mark; the same is expected now too. The songs are already
a rage in the market. Camera is handled by B.L. Sanjay.
Come Pongal, we will get to see what this period film,
a genre of rarity gets to harvest on silver screen with
quite a strong crew and cast. |
