A film, based on the hottest
holiday destination of the country,
has to be nothing but pure fun
and that is what we will be
looking for when Venkat Prabhu’s
third directorial venture Goa
hits screens this Friday. The
trailers have already proclaimed
the film as a Venkat Prabhu
holiday making it clear in no
uncertain terms that the film
intends to give uninhibited
joy and fun to anyone that watches
it. With the memories of Chennai
28 and Saroja still fresh in
our minds, we know that Venkat
Prabhu can be trusted upon to
deliver the fun.
The cast is the usual team of
boys that Venkat Prabhu loves
to work with. Jai and Aravind
Akash return to the main team
after making only fleeting appearances
in Saroja while Premji and Vaibhav
are very much in the thick of
things this time round too.
Sampath also continues his association
with the team for the third
straight film. The most interesting
part, however, is Venkat Prabhu’s
casting of a prominent leading
lady in his film for the first
time. Sneha will be seen in
what is touted to be a very
stylish character that is very
mysterious, something unlike
the Sneha we have been used
to in the recent years. Piaa
will be banking on Goa to make
a few big strides in Kollywood
after taking baby steps with
films like Poi Solla Porom and
Aegan. |

The more exciting part is that Goa
also marks the long awaited entry
of Ochre Studios and Soundarya Rajinikanth
into film production. For a first
time producer, Goa does look like
a brave undertaking. It has been reported
that a major portion of the film has
been shot on the beaches of Langkawi,
Malaysia due to rains and overcast
skies in the originally planned locations,
Goa. So, rest assured, we can expect
quite a sunny visual treat in Goa,
fitting for the holiday mood.
We all know about Venkat Prabhu’s
penchant for comedy. We have seen
him ingrain comedy into scripts two
times before. But this time, his film
is touted as an out and out comedy
which means we can expect double the
fun. When it is a Venkat Prabhu film,
there is one constant you expect and
that is Yuvan’s music. Goa is
no exception and the songs have caught
on, especially the one sung jointly
by the five cousins about their village.
With all the makings of a trademark
Venkat Prabhu film, this time with
added humor and glamour (which you
would expect to inadvertently find
on the beaches of Goa), let’s
hope that Goa will be the perfect
holiday. |
