‘Easan’
is Sasikumar’s second directorial
venture after his debut in ‘Subramaniapuram’
and third production under his home banner
Company Productions after Subramaniapuram
and Pasanga. It has Samudrakani, Vaibhav,
producer AL Alagappan and Abhinaya in the
lead cast.
Sasikumar acted in his debut creation and
then after producing and acting in a few
films, he has stepped into the shoes again
as Easan’s director. He seems |

to be a director adept at weaving through reality, not
overdoing characters or the shots thus maintaining the
candidness of the storyline. Easan is supposed to be
a story that happens within a day's time and also which
reflects the lifestyle of Chennai.
Interesting incidents during the shoots too are reminisced
by the team. During the shoot for a song on the ECR,
a gang of men stalked the female lead by chasing her
with their cars. It was only when Sasikumar intervened
that the men realized that shooting was taking place
and later apologized for their act. Camera has been
handled by SR Kathir.
The music is scored by James Vasanthan who had churned
out hit numbers in the film Subramaniapuram. The songs
in Easan seem to rise up the bar with its young and
peppy music. James Vasanthan had composed the ‘Jilla
Vittu’ song for another movie but while on a discussion
on a plane with Sasikumar, he decided to have the song
for Easan which has been sung by Thanjai Selvi. In the
movie, the folksy number features Sujatha, a successful
and famous dancer from Kerala, the same ponytailed girl
who leaps up and dances in joy in the song 'Kattukuyeelu
Manasukkulae' from Thalapathi.
Initially produced by actor Vikram, this movie was then
taken over by Sasikumar himself. The movie has Nadodigal
fame Abhinaya as the female lead and Vaibhav and Aparna
playing vital roles. Easan will also feature famous
Malayalam director Blessy. Blessy has won innumerous
Kerala state awards and a National award for his film
Thanmathra. The highlight of the movie is that producer
AL Alagappan will be playing a key role.
Several newcomers play supportive cast. When it is a
victorious combo getting together for another project,
expectations soar leaps and bounds and it applies for
Easan too. It would be interesting to see if Easan has
the Sasikumar stamp as it had in his earlier movies. |
