Chikku Bukku is a romantic travelogue, according to
the director. He says that the movie will be different
from other romantic stories. Though it is a love story,
neither Shriya nor Arya face resistance from their
respective families. In fact, they find fault with
each other which makes matters worse and reason for
the twist in the tale. On being asked why the movie
has been titled Chikku Bukku, Manikandan says, "Hero
and heroine meet in the train, fall in love in the
train and split in the train. With the train being
an integral part of the movie, we decided to name
it Chikku Bukku".
The film begins in London and ends in Karaikudi and
is shot in exotic locales in London, scenic locales
of Mysore, Coonoor and also in traditional houses
of Karaikudi. Director Manikandan, who has been an
erstwhile assistant to late Jeeva, would surely have
an eye for quality on screen. Hence, we hope to see
a visual splendor on the screen when the journey begins
this weekend.
Buoyed up after the huge success of Boss Engira Baskaran,
Arya is out to prove he is a safe bet in Kollywood.
Be it Naan Kadavul, Sarvam, Boss Engira Baskaran or
Madarasapattinam, Arya has proved that he is a versatile
actor. His performance in Chikku Bukku will be closely
watched. Shriya will be seen in Tamil after Kutty
and Jaggubhai, which were released in the early part
of the year. It was first decided to cast Genelia
for the female lead role in the movie. But it was
later announced that Shriya will act as Arya's pair
in the movie.
Similarly, Vidya Balan was considered to play the
other female role in the movie. Since her dates could
not meet the director's requirement, Preethika Rao
was chosen for the role. Preethika is the sister of
famous Bollywood actress Amrita Rao. Santhanam, who
created ruckus in Boss Engira Baskaran, will join
hands with Arya yet again. It will be interesting
to see their chemistry (??!!?) this time around.
RB Gurudev is the cinematographer of the movie. It
would be interesting to see the visuals as Manikandan
himself is a well-known lensman. VT Vijayan has edited
the movie while Colonial Cousins, Hariharan and Leslie
Lewis, have churned out the music. The music has been
very well appreciated by the public with Thooral Ninralum
and Adi Saarale occupying places in the charts for
a while now. Pravin Mani has recorded the background
score for the movie.
The movie was sent for censor certification recently
and has been cleared with a 'U' certificate. A recent
press release from Mediaone Global Entertainment indicates
that Chikku Bukku will be released worldwide with
300 prints.
Chikku Bukku will be released this Friday along with
three other movies. It could draw first blood with
the Suriya-starrer Ratha Charithiram. But since the
genres of these two movies are different, Chikku Bukku
is expected to have a separate audience. In any case,
we hope that Arya and Shriya will wow the audience
with their charm in this pleasant weather.
