Director Naga, famous for having directed many successful
horror serials on television now makes his big screen
debut. According to him, Ananthapurathu Veedu is not
about the regular spooky spirits who are baying for
blood. The spirits here are good natured and the film
revolves around family relations and emotions. What
kind of spirits are these? One might wonder. Well,
Indian cinema has mostly painted pictures of spirits
being scary and dangerous as a rule. Rarely has the
friendly side of the supernatural been explored. The
only example that comes to mind is the Malayalam ‘Ennu
Swantham Janakikutti’.
But, there is a classic example in the form of
a Hollywood movie; the much loved Casper which had
shown a loveable and cute ghost which turned out
to be a friend to the protagonist in the movie.
The Amitabh Bachchan starrer Bhoothnath was one
such flick.
Nanda returns to the big screen after Eeram with
yet another supernatural flick. Meanwhile Chaya
Singh will be seen after quite a long time. Her
last release was Vallamai Tharaayo. Child artiste
Aryan plays what may be the central character in
the movie.
The name of S Pictures on the production banner
has come to be seen as a stamp of quality. So, there
is a fair amount of expectation surrounding this.
The banner’s last production Rettaisuzhi may
not have exactly set the box office on fire, but
it did create positive vibes, especially with its
casting. Let’s see whether Ananthapurathu
Veedu can leave us in good spirits.
