Aamir Khan’s wife Kiran
Rao made her directorial debut with Dhobi
Ghat, which was premiered at the Toronto
Film Festival recently. The film garnered
a lot of attention with positive reviews.
Now, trouble seems to be brewing in India
over the title Dhobi Ghat. According to
Vinod Kumar Kanojia, Chairman of the Hindustan
Kanojia Organisation of Dhobis, the title
invites caste division among the Dhobi
community. He had also filed a petition
at the Delhi High Court regarding this
issue.
According to the petitioner, “The community
has been notified as scheduled caste in
the Constitution and calling any person
by the caste name is a punishable offence.
The film’s title is violating fundamental
rights of the community and it must be
restrained by the court.”
Aamir, who plays an important role in
Dhobi Ghat, has also produced the film.
