Six classical dancers have refused to
dance to AR Rahman's introductory song
for the CWG causing more head-ache to
the officials on Friday.
The news has come as a surprise to many
when Oscar and Grammy award winning composer
AR Rahman's tune was rejected by six classical
dance masters. This includes Kathak maestro
Pandit Birju Maharaj, Odissi danseuse
Sonal Mansingh, Bharatnatyam performer
Saroja Vaidyanathan, Kuchipudi artiste
Raja Reddy among others. Rahman had composed
a song ‘Aao Balam’ which was supposed
to be the introductory song of the Commonwealth
Games.
Informing the Organizing Committee (OC)
members that the tune of the composition
of Rahman's song is not ideal for their
dance, the masters have decided to come
up with their own version of the song.
The issue has been escalated and a decision
on this is expected to be taken soon.
It can be recalled that Rahman's theme
song for the CWG 'Utho Bado Jiyo' has
come under criticism from many of the
OC members.
