In a press release, the Producers’
Council President Rama Narayanan
had said that big budget films with
popular actors and actresses and
directed by ace directors should
be released only during Pongal,
Deepavali, Independence Day, Republic
Day and the Tamil New Year’s
Day. And not more than two Tamil
films and one dubbing film will
be allowed to hit the screens every
week.
According to Rama Narayanan, this
is to regulate the number of films
that comes out every week and the
inadequacy of theatres. With the
ratio being disproportionate, the
producers are finding it difficult
to break even or garner profits
as the theatre owners are in a hurry
to push the earlier release behind
to accommodate a new one.
