Sri Devi, Tabu beaten by Jayapradha

The remake of the yesteryear blockbuster Maapillai, which had Rajinikanth in the lead role, is underway. Rajini’s real-life maapillai, Dhanush, has been signed up to play the hero in the new version. One of the important characters in the original version was the mother-in-law role. This role was essayed by the late Sri Vidya in the original version and has remained etched out in our memories.

Discussions were on with several leading actresses, including Sri Devi, Tabu and Jayapradha to play this role. However, after several rounds of discussions, Jayapradha has been finalized to play the all-important role. Sources say that this character will be altered to suit the taste of the present day audience.
