The 86-year-old Tamil Nadu Chief
Minister M Karunanidhi was awarded
the Ulaga Kalai Padaipaali award
for his yeoman service in the film
industry, which began at the age
of 17, at the All-India Film Workers
Conference that began yesterday.
The CM was presented with a golden
pen with names of all the movies
(74 films) for which he had penned
the script or story. The award was
presented by the FEFSI Chief VC
Guhanathan and the office bearers.
The officials of the film associations
from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka,
West Bengal and Mumbai also felicitated
the CM. On behalf of Kerala, Sabu
Cyril and Mammooty honored the CM
with a silk shawl. Similarly, the
CM was felicitated by Kollywood’s
directors, producers, actors and
actresses, which included K Balachander,
Bharathiraja, SA Chandrasekar, P
Vasu, SP Muthuramam, Vijay Vikram,
Vishal, Radha Ravi, Trisha and Sunaina.
The film technicians were in for
a surprise when the CM made an announcement
that plans are afoot to construct
a house for every one of them.
Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay,
Rajesh Khanna, VC Guhanathan and
Mammooty spoke lauding the achievements
of the CM.
The event ended with a grand cultural
fest that was hosted by actress
Sripriya.
