“Remakes are tough”

Director Kannan who worked under Mani Ratnam brought in laurels to his guru with the success of Jayamkondaan. The film won acclaim and the direction was also lauded. Satisfied with his success, Kannan has moved on with his next project, a prestigious one at that. This time around, he will be remaking the blockbuster Hindi film

Jab We Met where Kareena and Shahid Kapoor played lead roles. In Tamil Bharath and Tamanna have been roped in and Moser Baer will be producing the film.

When the director was quizzed on the film, he said, “It is a popular belief that remake films are easier to make but actually it is not so. While some films record grand success and some others are total flops. So it is basically the treatment of the script which matters”. Kannan also added that Jab We Met was set on a Punjabi milieu whereas the same setting cannot be extended to a Tamil film. Hence he is toying with the idea of using some hill station like Ooty as the backdrop for his film.
