Subramaniyam, Yaaradi Nee Mohini and Pirivom
Santhippom, even though I personally consider
Pirivom too soppy.
Directors, producers and actors blame it
on movie goers. Apparently most movie-goers
would like to enjoy mindless trash with
odes sung to the “Hero”. Notice
the quotation marks. What has happened to
good old story telling? I search for an
answer.
Can you blame the industry for producing
mediocre-at-best films at a record rate?
Let’s look back at some biggest flops
in Tamil Cinema (based on my limited knowledge).
Karnan
Andha Naal
Veera Pandiya Katta Bomman
Iruvar
Hey Ram
Kannathil Muthamittal
Anbe Sivam
I believe most people would agree that
these are some of the great movies that
came from Kollywood. Some may even consider
them, milestones. I am one of them. So,
did movie-goers, ignore these movies because
they had a great story or great acting?
Unfortunately I cannot answer this question.
I can come up with many examples of mediocre
movies that rules the box office but it
may offend ardent “Fans” (again,
notice the quotation marks) of “Heroes”.
So I will leave that option to you, Behind
Woods viewers.
I’ll make a slight change to a quote
from the movie “Grosse Pointe Blank”.
Where are all the movie-goers dead, in
the heart or in the head?
