Even before its release, Yogi has
started its tryst with the festival
circuits around the world. It has
been confirmed that Yogi is an official
entry in the competition section
at the Dubai Film Festival to be
held on December 9. Ameer and director
Subramaniam Siva will be present
at the event. This was announced
by Ameer himself today at Hotel
Green Park in a press meet.
It doesn’t end there; Yogi
is also slated to be part of the
Durban and Berlin international
film festivals. With Yogi, Ameer
scores a hat trick of sorts of international
acclaim. His previous films Paruthiveeran
and Ram too were screened at a few
international film festivals.
The entry of Yogi into the festival
circuit was in fact not planned
by its makers. Suhasini Mani Ratnam
was instrumental in making it happen.
She felicitated a meeting between
the makers of Yogi and the coordinator
of the Dubai Film Festival, Meenakshi
Shetty who was reportedly very eager
to see the movie. Ameer and Subramaniam
Siva were a bit circumspect and
said that they had made a commercial
film which might not be the kind
that the film festival organizers
are looking for. But, upon the insistence
of Suhasini and Meenakshi Shetty,
a private screening of the pilot
version of the film was organized
in Chennai for a very small audience.
After watching the whole movie,
Meenakshi Shetty is said to have
invited them over to Dubai to be
a part of the film festival.
One of the conditions for entry
into the Dubai Film festival is
that the entrant movie should not
have been released in foreign countries.
This has made Ameer refrain himself
from selling the foreign rights
of Yogi until its debut at the Film
festival on December 9.
So, Yogi is making all the right
sounds. With the movie releasing
tomorrow and the film already on
its way to international acclaim,
the makers will sure feel upbeat
about its chances at the box office.
Let’s see how Yogi fares both
at the domestic and international
level.
