The two-day long Media & Entertainment
Business Conclave hosted by FICCI
drew to a close this evening with
Kamal presenting the valedictory
address and meeting the press briefly
after that. The Business Conclave,
held at Hotel Le Royal Meridien,
Chennai saw delegates across the
globe delivering speeches on various
topics on the evolving technologies
and the latest in the world of media
and entertainment on both days.
The Conclave was thus peppered with
innovative talk shows to brainstorm
ideas, interactive sessions and
presentation of case studies.
During his interaction with the
press, Kamal thanked all the core
committee members, including Sarathkumar
for their contributions to make
the program a success. He mentioned
that it was the Tamil Nadu Chief
Minister M Karunanidhi, who gave
go-ahead for such an idea on which
the whole conference was built upon.
He also thanked the Chief Minister
for allocating funds to the tune
of Rs. 50 lakhs for the conference
after realizing the significance
of this venture.
He read out recommendations made
by the action committee. The recommendations
included; reviewing current rules
and future resolutions of Trade
bodies, Unions and councils, creating
a digital archive for Tamil movies,
government to run a registry of
copyrights and ownerships of content
after looking into the legal ramifications,
arriving at a standardized process
for post-production works and expand
the same to other areas of the industry,
creating security guidelines and
to obtain priority industry status
for the movie business.
Kamal also assured that these recommendations
will make a noticeable change in
the industry in terms of protecting
and archiving the content. The conference
not only focused on cinema, but
also delved into other areas of
entertainment including Television,
Radio and performing arts. Kamal
added that the idea to include diverse
areas of entertainment in the conference
is to arrive at a feasible revenue
generation model for all the sections
of entertainment.
FICCI has widely generated a positive
response among the film industry,
which was evident from the enthusiastic
participation seen across all the
events by the representatives of
Tamil cinema including producers,
directors, technicians and individual
enthusiasts.
