In another forum in FICCI Frames
2009, wherein the speakers constituted
the bigwigs of television industry
the panelists discussed the current
trends in TV content. Siddhartha
Basu, CEO of Synergy Adlabs delivered
the keynote address and the session
was moderated by Anil Wanvari, founder
and CEO of Indiatelevsion.com and
other such portals. Radhika Sarathkumar
of Radan Media, Sanjay Reddy of
Sun TV network and producer G K
Mohan shared their success stories.
While Mr. Reddy felt that there
is some scripting in non-scripted
shows, Radhika felt that the reality
shows will have a mixture of both
scripted and non-scripted content.
Though she does not believe in the
north-south divide, she feels the
existence of difference in the taste
and sensibilities of people belonging
to different states. While some
soaps worked well in Telugu and
Kannada, the same thing does not
work in Tamil Nadu or in Kerala.
Producer G K Mohan made an interesting
analogy between the food and the
serials. While the daily soaps are
like rice and sambar, reality shows
are like Pappadams and vadams. However
all the panelists concurred that
the soaps and reality shows are
here to stay but may evolve over
a period of time to adapt themselves
to the changing scenarios.
