FICCI’s media and entertainment
business conclave began this morning
at Le Royal Meridien, Chennai with
the Honorable Chief Minister of
Tamilnadu Dr Karunanidhi inaugurating
the session. Kamal who was dressed
formally in a three piece suit looked
as dashing as ever, handed the bouquet
to the CM and Yash Chopra did the
honors to Smt. Ambica Soni, Honorable
Union Minister for information and
broadcasting.
The traditional lighting of the
kuthuvillaku was done by Shrimathi
Ambika Soni, Kamal, Sarathkumar,
Hindi film maker Yash Chopra along
with other dignitaries.
Entire inaugural session was moderated
by Dr Amit Mitra, Secretary General,
FICCI.
Kamal gave a brief welcome note
and said that entertainment industry
transcends all regional boundaries.
Yash Chopra on his address reiterated
Kamal’s thoughts and said
that sensibility, audience and the
way of film making has changed drastically
over a period of time.
Smt Ambika Soni lauded the efforts
of Tamilnadu government in tackling
video piracy, added that she would
organize a separate event to extol
fifty years of Kamal’s contribution
to cinema.
Chief Minister who chose to speak
in English appreciated the efforts
of FICCI and stated the various
benefits extended to the entertainment
industry in Tamilnadu. He also put
forth a proposal for a cinema township
in the state. He said that, as always,
he is associated with film industry
and even now is involved in scripting
two films.
The other eminent speakers on the
occasion were A P Parigi, Group
Chief Executive Officer (India operations)
Eros International, Sarath Kumar,
President South Indian Artists Association,
Michael Andreen, Senior Vice President,
International production- Walt Disney
studios, K S Sripathy, Chief Secretary
Tamilnadu Government and Farokh
Balsara of Ernst & Young.
The session was also attended by
other eminent media personalities
like director Suresh Krissna, Mysskin,
producer Ramkumar of Sivaji productions,
Gauthami, Jayachithra, Y G Mahendra,
Radhika Sarathkumar among other
media personalities.
