In what could be termed as a crackdown
on big budget ventures, the Kerala
Film Producer's Association has
come down heavily on such movies
in a recently convened meeting.
According to the newly laid out
rules to curb such ‘economically
unfeasible’ ventures, a movie’s
maximum budget cannot be above 3.5
crores and the days spent on shooting
not more than 45. Any new production
venture can only use up 60,000 feet
of film roles. Besides, no mobile
phones are allowed inside the sets
except of producers and production
managers.
The Association president Sabu Cherian
mentioned in a press interaction
that movies such as Angel John (a
mammoth budget production venture
with Mohanlal and Shantanu Bhagyaraj
in the lead) cannot make profit
in the Malayalam film industry since
the collections can never surpass
the budget. Besides, the Association
has also decided to proscribe the
mega budget multi-starrer Christian
Brothers which was recently kick
started.
Referring to the above regulations,
the Tamil Nadu Producers’
Council president Rama Narayanan
said that the Malayalam industry
is not only taking the lead in producing
quality movies, but also being proactive
in bringing out such policies.
