A bevy of beauties made one film each in
Tamil, captivated the audience to varying
degrees, and vanished like a puff of smoke.
These babes moved on to greener pastures and
some took Bollywood by storm, never looking
back. Let us look at these lovely lasses who
gave us the briefest possible glimpse of their
potential and disappeared from our shores
forever, for better or worse.
Kajol: Few North-Indian
heroines have made the impact Kajol did with
a single film, Minsara Kanavu with Aravind
Swamy and Prabhu Deva. The bubbly actress
won hearts with her raw talent, energy, and
screen presence. Her magnetic eyes enslaved
a legion of fans and she left them yearning
for more. Much to our disappointment, she
never came back for more.
Priyanka Chopra: This bombshell
took her first step into tinsel town with
Tamizhan opposite Vijay, fresh after winning
Miss World. Dusky and skinny to the point
of emaciation, she was a trifle awkward to
say the least. Shortly after her unimpressive
debut, she signed a Hindi film, with Akshay
Kumar and the rest as they say is history
with Priyanka making the A -list in B town.
Lara Dutta: She won the
Miss Universe title the same year Priyanka
Chopra won hers. Lara also chose a Tamil film
as her launch pad and debuted with Action
King Arjun in Arasatchi. One hit track later,
she disappeared only to resurface in Bollywood,
coincidentally in the same film, Andaaz which
Priyanka made with Akshay.
Bipasha Basu: The Bengali
bombshell did a cameo role in Sachein which
was insipid and uninspiring. Her confused
siren act and a hot item number left the viewers
stone cold. Not surprisingly, there were no
more takers and she confined herself to Bollywood.
Mallika Sherawat: The actress
who dares to bare all, made her Tamil debut
in a Kamal Hassan flick, Dasavatharam. She
shook her shapely backside gamely in front
of a loving camera and paid the price for
being a ‘villi’ by getting impaled
and dying a gruesome death but nobody cared
about her much.
Other honorable mentions in our One Film
Wonders summation include Pooja Bhatt (Kalloori
Vasal), Rinke Khanna (Majnu), Ameesha Patel
(Pudhiya Geethai), Tanushree and Sarah Jane
Diaz (Theeradha Vilaiyaatu Pillai), and Preeti
Jangiani (Hello). One moment, they were doing
their best to win us over and suddenly they
were gone…
