Maakkan
– the film that has Shah Rukh
Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan’s
pictures as its tagline –
will go on floors in June. Makkhan
is based on a real life character
Segaan, who lived in Thanjavur.
The film’s inaugural pooja
was held today with the ace director
K. Balachander clapping the board
and director Madesh handing over
the script. It was interesting to
note that KB thumped the director-turned-actor
Selvan jocularly on his head. Perhaps
that is the veteran director’s
way of blessing the youngster. Selvan,
incidentally, was an assistant to
director Shankar
Selvan said that though his passion
for directing films remains intact,
he took up the role as it was tailor-made
for him. He revealed that when his
assistant Murali wanted him to star
in the film he was a bit apprehensive
and decided to listen to the story
before declining the offer to act.
However, Selvan soon realized that
it was made for him and decided
to star in it. According to Selvan,
he could have donned the greasepaint
if he wanted to while directing
the film Suri, but he was simply
not interested.
It was also disclosed during the
function that a couple of heroines
refused to star in the film. Even
when the team approached Keerthi
Chawla they were nervous that she
would refuse. However, Keerthi was
not hesitant and signed on the dotted
lines.
Maakkan’s music director Srikanth
Deva said that since it is a village
subject he is looking for Madurai
native songs and has been researching
in that area for some good tunes.
