The
sale of the erstwhile Good Luck
Theatre, owned by the M/s GV Films
Limited to Mr. and Mrs. Priyadarshan
was confirmed by the Supreme Court
Division Bench presided by Justice
S.H. Kapadia and Justice Aftab Alam.
Confirming the sale, the SC Division
Bench upheld the judgment of the
High Court of Madras.
The facts of the case is that ace
cinematographer and director Priyadarshan
and his wife Lizzy purchased the
theatre at a public auction held
by the Income Tax Department for
the dues owed by its owners M/s
Sujatha Films Private Limited. However,
M/s G.V. Films, which belonged to
the late producer G. Venkateswaran,
claimed that they are the tenants
and opposed the sale. It is worth
mentioning here that M/s Sujatha
Films Private Limited was owned
by the late producer and his wife
Sujatha.
The court held that GV Films Limited
and Sujatha Films Limited, in collusion,
wanted to avoid the tax arrears
of Rs. 19 crores and hence foisted
the false case to keep Mr. and Mrs.
Priyadarshan from taking possession
of the property. The property in
question is now known as Four Frames
Theatre.
