Popular danseuse Leela Samson has been appointed as the Chief of the Central Board of Film Certification. Talking about Leela's appointment to the coveted post, the out-going Chief Sharmila Tagore said that she is ready to offer any help that Leela Samson may require in her new job. When asked if she was consulted about Leela’s appointment, Sharmila said that she was not included in the discussion.
Leela’s appointment has, however, evoked a mixed reaction from the film industry. While some consider her as an outsider who does not have any experience in the industry, others feel that her inclusion will bring in a fresh perspective.
Leela had reportedly said, “My expertise is not in films but I think my role has to do with viewing cinema for its aesthetics.”
