purposes. It is a little treat for the audience
as they have paid to see a particular star,
and the appearance of another one is an added
bonus. Special guest stars enliven the proceeding
considerably and really fire up the viewers.
Finally, it is a great way for the stars themselves
to promote goodwill as they are doing the
director, producer, or/and leading man a small
favor and it makes them come across as good
sports.
In recent times, there have been some memorable
guest appearances.
Arya in Siva Manasula Sakthi
Arya practically set the trend for special
guest appearances with his surprise entry
in Siva Manasula Sakthi as a prospective groom
for the hero’s love interest. He proves
to be instrumental in getting the bickering
lovebirds back together. And he looked so
dapper and dashing that every female in the
audience went into an absolute tizzy!
Jiiva in Boss Engira Baskaran
Jiiva returned the favor in Boss Engira Baskaran
and turned up as a last minute contender for
the heroine’s affection. It was a delightfully
tongue-in-cheek performance and had the audience
in splits.
Suriya in Manmadhan Ambu
Suriya put in an appearance as himself in
Manmadhan Ambu with Kamal Hassan and Madhavan.
It was a neat little trick and Maddy became
super jealous of him! He is also doing a very
special appearance in Avan Ivan.
Dhanush in Seedan
Dhanush did a fine turn as a cook in Subramaniya
Siva’s Seedan as a special favor to
him. The two had worked before in Thiruda
Thirudi. It was a lovely gesture for the busy
star.
